What is the difference between Hot and Strip wax at Ivy?
Hot Wax
Perfect for sensitive areas and coarse hairs. For example, anywhere on the face, underarms and bikini areas. This wax is very gentle on the skin, a thin layer of oil is applied creating a barrier between the skin and the wax to help protect the skin, the wax then cools and sets around the hairs to be removed, leaving no residue after removal, oil or gel is then applied to cool and soothe the area/s.
Strip Wax
Perfect for finer hairs and larger areas. For example, legs, forearms, back, some facial areas including upper lip and eyebrow shaping. A thin layer of oil is applied to protect the skin, the wax is then applied and removed using a paper strip, oil and gel is then applied to cool and soothe the area/s ensuring no residue. This is also very gentle and can be used on all hair types.
Pre Treatment Advice
For all body waxing treatments, hair should be at least 3mm long for best results. For facial waxing, do not exfoliate for at least 48 hours prior to your appointment.
Please fill out your consultation form as best you can prior to your appointment, some medications or topical creams can affect how your skin will respond to waxing. Including but not limited to; Roaccutane, Glycolic acid, Salicylic acid, Lactic acid, Retinol etc.
Aftercare Advice
Avoid heat on the area for 24 hours post treatment, including swimming, sweaty workouts, hot shower/baths.
To avoid ingrown hairs and to get the best out of your hair removal, moisturise daily, if possible and exfoliate the area 2x per week from 72 hours post waxing. We have great products in our Online Store for this!
Most of our waxing areas are unisex. Our full treatment list, including waxing packages can be found on our Online Booking page. Please note, we do not offer male intimate waxing.
Waxing areas are usually self-explanatory. We’ve listed out a few below to help you decide which treatment may be best for you:
Waxing Areas Explained
Eyebrow Shape
A slightly longer appointment for new clients or those looking to have more eyebrow shaping, if it’s been a while since your last appointment. Includes a consultation between therapist and client to create the desired eyebrow shape using hot or strip wax.
Eyebrow Tidy
Perfect for a quick eyebrow tidy. Brief consultation to follow natural shape and remove any unwanted stray hairs using hot or strip wax.
Basic Bikini
Area out with a standard brief/bikini pant line.
Extended Bikini
More hair removed than a Basic Bikini, closer to a thong line, does not include intimate areas.
Full Bikini
Personalised to remove all pubic hair or to leave a desired amount (strip or triangle) of hair. Formerly known as Hollywood or Brazilian waxing. This includes female intimate areas both front and perianal.
Full Bikini Light
Ideal for those with super light hair growth, who may have been waxing for years or are lucky enough to have less hair!
Full Bikini + Buttocks
On the flip-side, if you have hair continuing onto the buttock cheeks all unwanted hair will be removed.

FAQs
Q: Is Waxing Safe For All Skin Types?
A: Waxing is generally safe for most skin types. However, individuals with hyper sensitive skin should perform a patch test first.
Q: Can I Use My Retinol, AHA Or BHA Product Before Or After My Facial Wax?
A: Avoid using any of these ingredients/products 3 days before and 3 days after your facial waxing.
Q: How Long Does Waxing Last?
A: Results vary, waxing typically lasts 3-6 weeks. Hair regrowth tends to be finer and softer after consistent waxing. After your first wax it may not last as long, after your second and so on, the more consistently you wax, the longer your results will last.
Q: Is Waxing Painful?
A: Some brief discomfort is normal, but pain sensitivity levels vary among individuals. We use wax designed for sensitive areas and will perform your treatments quickly and efficiently, to ensure you are as comfortable as possible throughout.
Q: Will My Hair Grow Back Thinner?
A: As the hair is removed from the root, this helps reduce hair growth. Compared to shaving, where the hair is blunted this gives the appearance of thicker hairs. After waxing your hair grows back with a tapered end, feeling smoother and looking finer. Consistent waxing can lead to less growth over time, generally every 4-8 weeks.
Q: Which Wax Is Best For Me?
A: We use either Hot Wax or Strip Wax depending on the area. We can check your hair growth during your appointment and assess your skin to select the best wax for you.
Q: How Long Should My Hair Be For Waxing?
A: Hair should be at least 3-5mm long for effective waxing. Avoid trimming before your appointment – longer is better than too short! If you have shaved then please allow a minimum of 2 weeks of growth before your next wax, this may need to be longer if your growth is very slow.
